Data-Center Building Is Up Fivefold

From 2018 to 2022, builders spent between $500 million and $1 billion a month putting up data centers, after inflation. Then the bill for the buildings — not the servers — jumped. Census Bureau figures put June 2026 at $4.4 billion. Our World in Data notes the hardware is a separate, and often larger, check. The warehouse is getting a warehouse.
